Kindergarten: We are learning the "parts of the computer" song. We're also working on a lot of basic computer skills like typing, mouse control, saving and printing!
First: We're using a cool website called storybird.com This site allows you to read and create stories. You can create assignments to make a book written by the whole class, or you can allow students to work on their own stories. Stories are inspired by the wonderful artwork on the website. Since I have already given the students a username, you can create your own, make your class, and then work with me so we can invite your students to join your class as well as mine. Any questions, let me know!
Second: We are making PowerPoints about 2nd grade. Students are writing what they like, what they've learned, and putting in a page about themselves. I will be taking pictures with the new digital camera so students can add it to their PowerPoint! We will be learning how to change the font/style and add animations!
Third: BVM is doing a PowerPoint on famous African Americans. OLF is going to be researching, writing about, and then making a shamrock-shaped word cloud about Saint Patrick!
Fourth: We are finishing up our PA postcards! Students are busy working on their "friendly letter" so that we can print, and maybe send out our lovely cards!
Fifth: We are finishing up animated PowerPoints to show the parts of a circuit.
Sixth: OLF: We are finishing up animated flow charts about parts of a cell, osmosis, diffusion, and photosynthesis. BVM: We are finishing up PowerPoints about Africa.
Seventh: We are working on a travel project. The project includes a lot of research about different cities throughout the world. It also includes problem solving and critical thinking as we plan trips across the globe. We will also be doing some sort of visual-- hopefully a photoshopped picture of the students in the city they wish to travel to (if not, we will be doing a travel video).
Eighth: We are working on a travel project. The project includes a lot of research about different cities throughout the world. Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth grades are also beginning accounts on kidblog.com. Kidblog is a safe site where students can post blogs and comment on other blogs. All content must be approved by the administrator (me) before it becomes public so content is monitored. I am hoping that this will help students become better writers, give them something constructive to do if they finish their computer projects early, and help them to feel like they are a part of the web.
Basic keyboarding is also something that is being addressed in all grade levels.
